Biologists at the Seattle Aquarium conduct critical research on a variety of Puget Sound species including: giant Pacific octopus, sixgill sharks, and Alaskan sea otters, all in an effort to contribute to the health of our local marine environment.

Every summer, the Aquarium trains over 100 Beach Naturalist volunteers to visit local beaches during low-tide weekends and engage families in hands-on exploration of their local marine environment while increasing their understanding of how their everyday actions affect Puget Sound.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded $499,498 to the Seattle Aquarium Society in June 2009 to integrate ocean science information gathered from space into its marine mammal exhibitory and educational programming.
Argosy also particiaptes in the Aquarium's Beach Naturalist Program: Stroll along almost any Seattle beach during low tide on a summer weekend and you'll see that the shore is alive! Not only will you witness the Puget Sound's multitude of marine plants and animals, but you'll also see advocates for these living wonders sharing their knowledge with beach goers - Beach Naturalists.
