Join Argosy for a fabulous afternoon on the water at the race line of the Maritime Festival Tugboat Races, the country's largest tugboat race. 40 boats are expected to compete in three heats, starting at approximately 2 p.m. on the course from Pier 86 to 57. Jessica Williams is a well-known and highly respected pianist and composer who has deep roots in the Jazz Tradition. This two-time Grammy Nominee was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and classically trained at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She has written scores for PBS and HBO specials and has received more than twenty ASCAP Special Awards for her prolific compositional output. She appeared at the 2004 and 2006 Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festivals at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and she has played everywhere from Carnegie Hall in New York City, to the Opera House in Tokyo, Japan.

He has released several recordings as the leader of his own ensemble and also in collaboration with other musicians. He has received several jazz and chamber music commissions. His 2 most recent CDs, Canto do Rio (2004) and Roda Carioca (2006) were both nominated for a Latin Grammy. His latest release is Alma do Nordeste, inspired by the music of Northeastern Brazil.
On stage, guitarist Michael Powers has shared billings with Herbie Hancock, the legendary Ray Charles, award-winning vocalist Diane Schuur, Gladys Knight and the Pips and contemporary Jazz artists Ronny Jordan, Tom Grant and David Benoit. His powerful performances have regularly commanded standing ovations.
