LOCKS CRUISE DESCRIPTION

2-HOUR CRUISE DEPARTURE POINT: PIER 55 or AGC MARINA

Travel through the beating workboat heart of Seattle during this 2 1/2-hour round-trip tour with narration. Between Elliott Bay and Lake Union you’ll be surrounded by floating homes and houseboats, large fishing vessels, seaplanes, majestic city parks, and more. While in the Locks, YOU become the attraction to those on shore as your vessel raises up or lowers, due to the ever-changing tides of Puget Sound.

Your experience includes:

  • A 2-hour cruise including Elliott Bay, the Lake Washington Ship Canal, and Lake Union including live narration.
  • A trip through the Chittenden Locks where your vessel is raised or lowered to travel between the salt water and the fresh.
  • Close-up views of workboats in Tugboat Alley, Seattle’s floating home communities, marinas, urban parks, seaplanes, and more.
  • Full-service bar available on board for the purchase of specialty cocktails, local wine and beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks.
  • Boarding photos of your group available for purchase upon your return.
  • An approximately 20-minute-long, narrated motor coach ride returns you back to your original departure point (ROUND-TRIP PACKAGE ONLY).

THE LOCKS CENTENNIAL

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks were completed in 1917, and so in 2017 will celebrate 100 years of service. To help commemorate this event, the Corps of Engineers Foundation has launched a fundraiser to update the visitor education facilities on the grounds around the locks.

Argosy Cruises (as Seattle Harbor Tours) started giving public cruises through the locks in 1990, and we are a proud supporting sponsor of the upgrading projects being planned for shore-side visitors:

  • Expanding the fish ladder plaza into a theater-like learning center with year-round educational programs.
  • Creating a visitor center welcome gallery to connect the existing historical structures.

If you are interested in supporting the Locks' centennial campaign, we encourage you to visit BallardLocks.org to learn more. Contributions are tax deductible, as the Corps of Engineers Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.
